Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is an expert memory extractor. With the help of his partner, Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) they’re in the business of creeping into the dreams of corporate “bad guys” and stealing vital information using the most complex technology.

Knowing their skills and believing they can do even more, they are challenged by an influential businessman, Saito (Ken Watanbe) to use the technology to plant memories rather than extract them. Saito wants to break up the business of one of his competitors and he wants Dom and Arthur to plant the idea to end the company into the mind of the company’s heir (Cillian Murphy). The reward? If Dom is able to pull of the inception, Saito will use his power to clear Dom of murder charges. He’ll be able to return to his family.

With an offer too good to refuse, Dom accepts and begins gathering the most advanced players in the field to work with him. Along the way, Dom’s debilitating mental state and his distress over the loss of his wife (Marion Cotlilard) creeps into the dreams they infiltrate and threatens the entire operation. Will Dom find a way to control his own subconscious and successfully plant memories into Saito’s adversary for his own freedom?
